Dr P Beeharry Principal Agricultural Officer (Veterinary Services) Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security Mauritius Dear Dr Beeharry: I welcome the action taken by the Ministry of Agro Industry and Food Security in seizing the 440 long-tailed macaques from a building in Jin Fei. I urge you to carry out an urgent investigation to find those responsible for the illegal capture and captivity of these macaques. I am, however, concerned for the welfare and future of these macaques, and urge the authorities to show compassion and return these monkeys to the wild where they belong, rather than give them to companies where they will be used for breeding or exported to laboratories.
