  Hon. Dinesh Gunawardena Prime Minister Sri Lanka Dear Prime Minister: It has been reported in the news media that Sri Lanka plans to export 100,000 toque macaques to China. If this report is correct, such a plan would subject these sentient and intelligent monkeys to extreme suffering by being trapped, removed from their families and shipped to a foreign land, never to see their friends and families again. Given that there are no accurate population data for the population of this Endangered species in Sri Lanka, removal of such a great number of individuals is likely to have a catastrophic effect on the ecosystem I urge you to put an immediate end to this plan. If there are underlying concerns such as unfavourable interactions between macaques and people, these should be handled with compassion and in an humane and effective manner. Sincerely,
