Tabak, D.D.S., Ph.D., Acting Director, National Institutes of Health Dear directors: I am writing to strongly object to research being funded by the National Institutes of Health and its branches. I refer specifically to forcing rhesus macaques to consume the recreational drug cannabis, funded by the US tax payer through your grants DA056493, HD000849, OD011092 and OD028223, at the Oregon Health & Science University and Oregon National Primate Research Center (see citation below). Not only is such research immoral, it has no direct benefit to people and the resources used would be better applied to help people directly. I urge the NIH in its entirety to stop funding these cruel experiments and to end the use of non-human primates as 'surrogates' for human beings.
