  Professor Anne Ferguson-Smith FRS, FMedSci Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and International Partnerships University of Cambridge Dear Professor Ferguson-Smith: I am writing to strongly object to research using non-human primates being done at the University of Cambridge, funded by the Wellcome Trust and European Research Council, published in STAR Protocols (see reference below). Not only is such research immoral, it is completely contrary to your public pronouncements of only using non-human primates when no alternatives are available. The cited research shows quite convincingly that the essence of the research in non-human primates can be obtained from careful studies on people. The non-human primate research has no direct benefit to people and the resources used would be better applied to help people directly. I urge the University of Cambridge to stop allowing these cruel experiments to be done and to end the use of non-human primates as 'surrogates' for human beings.
